A short time ago, in a land not so far away, I was back in college doing the whole evangelism thing part-time as a member of Microsoft's Student Partner program. I got a lot of exposure to some great Microsoft products and, most importantly, was able to spend a lot of time coming up with cool ways to show students how to dive head-first into .NET development.

At the end of my senior year, just before leaving the Student Partner program, I had this crazy idea that I could mosey on up to Redmond and say hi to the man behind the curtain pulling all the .NET strings, Mr. ScottGu ScottGu himself. Far-fetched? Probably. Little did I know that even a big shot like ScottGu will take time out of a busy Wednesday to answer a few of my questions. So I hopped on a plane, dropped by the Channel8 studio, hooked up with Max Zuckerman and sat down for an hour with the Gu.

The talk was a lot of fun and provided some great insight into what it's like to run the .NET Developer Division and how Scott manages to get so much done (contrary to popular belief, he does not have any clones running around Redmond doing his bidding). He offered some great leadership tips and some fun little tidbits about his own management style (his "Seagull Management" approach is classic!). We talked a while about technology and the future of the .NET platform, and Scott went in-depth into the the development process of the Silverlight platform in order to provide some insight into how his team approaches big challenges.

Talking with Scott was a lot of fun. If you want some advice on getting started with .NET development, are interested in learning more about the how the .NET team works, or just want to know what it's like to be ScottGu, be sure to check it out.
