Telerik Test Studio R3 2014: It’s All About User Experience

• Project View is gone, giving you very quick access to your test steps, project elements, and properties in a single simplified view. All you need to do is double click a test in the Project tab, and it will open up in the middle pane:  
  
  



• But wait, there’s more. You can open up as many tests as you want! Double click tests in the Project tab to have them appear in the center pane; toggle between them to copy/paste steps across all tests in the project.   
  
  



• The new simplified main Test UI brings the Elements Explorer, Step Builder and Properties into the spotlight. These are now just a click away thanks to the familiar, intuitive tab layout at the bottom of each pane. Better yet, they all get contextual: select a test step and the pane to the right will instantly show the properties for this very step. Select a given element from the Elements Explorer and  the Properties window will get updated to display details about this element. Go the Project Tab, and click on a test – same again, the Properties pane will show you the test details.  
  
  




• Test Studio’s Ribbon bar also gets optimized making it much easier for you to navigate. It shows items related to the selected pane features (Project Tab or Test Steps). Additional enhancements include:

  • Launch the Debugger with a single click by using the On/Off toggle button. When on, use the dropdown to set various breakpoints which will automatically pause your test as you run it.
  • Wait on Elements is on a speed dial now: we wanted it to be really prominent as it’s an important project level setting. Default global timeouts are set which you can easily adjust. Additionally, you can override these project-level timeouts on a step level by using the Properties pane.
  • The Test as Step feature is now much more visible.
  • Silverlight Out-Of-Browser recording option was moved to the Record menu.
  • The Storyboard view was transferred within the Test Steps pane.
  



• Building codeless conditional steps has been further simplified.
• And if your application is powered by Kendo UI, your test maintenance just got easier. We introduced unique element find logic that ensures solid playback experience. The new logic includes a list of find clauses over the unique class attribute of Kendo UI widgets. It may also automatically build chained find expressions (for sub elements of widgets). A new GroupIndex clause is added so that the playback can find the exact instance in the HTML in case of multiple of the same type.  
  
  

• Two new Kendo UI widget translators were added to the already comprehensive set Test Studio features: drop down and combo box.
