How interactive can things be?

I recently came across a very interesting site with videos about Multi-Touch Interaction.

The videos can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVI6xw9Zph8&eurl=

I am a really big fan of interactive browser applications. Google Local and Microsoft Live Local are doing amazing things and, together with small companies like ours (http://www.telerik.com/ajax), are changing people perceptions about what can happen in the browser. Nonetheless, after watching this video, everything that's viewed as incredibly "interactive" on the web is a bit bleak compared to what you will see. Speaking about map interactivity, if you go to the middle of the video, you will see how a user interacts with a 3D geographical map. It's not happening on the web but still I was very amazed.

After watching those videos, I have a feeling that movies such as "The Island""Minority Report" and "I, Robot" will be a reality very soon.

Will we see such interactivity in the browser anytime soon? I don't know but we'll be there:)

Vassil:

That was a great video... it's an example of some of the interactiveness (albeit the example wasn't web specific) that I'm trying to get telerik into investigating... I keep using the term "sexy software"... well that was definitely an example of it. Now in terms of what's doable today on the web, well it's not nearly as sophisticated as what was shown in the video, however there is a chasm right now of present "state of the art" web apps that feature neato stuff like AJAX and what was shown... I believe that telerik can help to bridge that gap by taking some new bold steps into providing creating new GUI paradigms as you just witness in the video. I've been talking with Armand Datema (another telerik MVP) about exactly this kind of advanced interfaces... he's been showing me some stuff he has and I've been sharing some of my stuff. Both of us seem to want telerik to move ahead of some of your competitors into some new creative GUI genres... sexy interfaces. If you email me Vassil, I'll discuss some of these ideas with you.

Anyway, thanks for pointing out that video to me... it gave me some good ideas.

Lastly, you should have a look at this video (although it is for the new windows interface Avalon, the GUI presented could be replicated for use on the web without all that much difficulty)... here is the link: http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=121804
