This summer... Reporting and Windows Forms from telerik

by Vassil Terziev | Comments 12
The June issue of MSDN is out earlier than planned and this gives me freedom to blog about some very important developments in the telerik product offering. If you are an MSDN subscriber and you do not completely disregard the product ads, you might have noticed that "telerik is growing" and our ASP.NET product line will be soon complemented by a set of Windows Forms components and a Reporting tool.

If you are interested in getting more information and seeing a preview of the Telerik Reporting and Windows Forms product lines, please stop by booth 819 at TechEd USA to meet with our team. Till TechEd comes, I will be posting on my blog additional information about our upcoming products.

I can only hope that telerik customers are as excited as our team. We have done a lot to come up with a set of compelling products that will further streamline your development and will be a nice addition to your toolbox.

I would like to throw in a quick note that all holders of an active telerik r.a.d.controls subscription will get the Windows Forms and Reporting products at no cost as part of their subscriptions.

Hi Vassil,

I want to get RSS feed in my outlook. I already have RSS Popper installed. I get many feeds but I don't get yours. When I add your feed, it deletes it.

Thanks,
Asit

That sounds great! I'm aspecially interested in this report tool! Unfortunately I'm not albe to come to TechEd USA. You should have a Europe conference. You guys are from Bulgarian?

Will telerik ever offer their components as royalty free? This is the only thing holding me back from using them in our software...it is really aggravating because I like the components...but I'm not willing to sign an OEM license and have to deal with the hassle of licensing.

I would even be willing not to have source if I could get a royalty free license.

<sigh>

I have a feature request for the reporting tools if it's possible to have included. Is there any way you could support importing ComponentOne's reports so that we won't need to recreate reports? I want to replace ComponentOne completely as their tools are horrible and from the small previews in the ad and the quality of everything else Telerik has made, I'm really wanting to replace C1 with Telerik's products already. Some of the reports I designed took over 6 hours to make and I'd hate to have to recreate them. Hope this is something that can be included. :)

Asit: I will check with the web team

Daniel: yes, we are:) Regarding conferences in Europe - that's definitely something on our ToDo list.

Todd: they are! You don't have full redistribution rights only in few cases (say you are building a developer product and you need customers to use our APIs directly). If you have any questions about redistribution/OEMs, please send an e-mail to our sales e-mail. I will pick up and will address your concerns.

Gregory: I am not sure whether this will make it in v1.0, however, it is a reasonable request and we will consider its implementation in a future version.

Vassil,

it would be cool to hear a little bit more about your new reporting tool. I'm currently evaluating reporting tools from DevExpress and DataDynamics. Should I wait for telerik reporting? I guess your answer will be "yes" ;-) But I would like to know why!

Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

It would be very useful to be able to specify output resolutions in regards to graphics and charts. Standard web charts usually look really fuzzy when printed from a web report.

The reporting product sounds VERY intersesting can you tell us more, will there be beta's available what/how will it work. Is it ASP.Net or WinForms? Please tell us more...

Al

John: we will definitely work on this!

Al: the reporting engine is going to have an integrated VS.NET designer and will have WinForms and WebForms viewers that will display the reports. The beta is expected to ship at some point in July. It is going to be public, so everyone will get his/her fair chance to experiment with the tool and give us some feedback what needs to be improved for the final release.
