Conferences?

by Telerik Marketing Blog | Comments 3
I was thinking about how professional conferences and the accompanying them trade shows are a great place for networking, finding out what’s hot in the industry and learning from the leading experts in the field.  I still believe that conferences are very useful  but I am starting to have some second thoughts about the tradeshows.

Considering the myriad of online communication recourses available to companies for interacting with their customers and the community, and the global economy crisis, 2009 will be an interesting year.

I decided to post this to see if you have any opinion on the subject. I think it will be interesting to see the different views as to what makes you go to the vendor booths, other than the swag. And what will make you go this year, especially if you feel the burdens of the word crisis? Maybe you believe that tradeshows are useless and the conference part is all that is needed?

I was at some TechEd's coonference and had alawys the feeling there's nothing new said. If you follow the community closely, you have already all the information.
Tradeshows are only interesting if there are unknown vendors or products. I wouldn't visit for example the Telerik booth because I know the products.

The best parts for boths is always the networking, so why not doing a network only event? And no changes for 2009.

@Eric: I would argue that, while the content may not be new to you, you do get a chance to ask questions with the developers and project managers from the product teams for those technologies. You can also provide direct feedback to those individuals. That is an amazing benefit to going to these types of conferences.

I agree that seeing new and exciting vendors and products is a great benefit to the trade show portion of large conferences. I love walking around and checking out the vendors I don't know much about. But even if you're already a Telerik expert you should still drop by our booth and say hello. We love to meet you guys (and gals) and enjoy hearing your feedback. Remember that we plan the roadmaps for our products based on feedback from customers like yourself. Plus, if you stop by we might be inclined to take you out to lunch, which we've been known to do in the past. :)

Thanks for your feedback!

@Erik
Thanks for the sharing your viewpoint. I would say that Kevin summed it up very nicely. I do agree with him that it will be beneficial for you if you stop by Telerik's booth.

Should you have any questions the guys will be more than happy to help you out, hear first hand what you may want in a future release or just give you a t-shirt :-)
