The Q1 2014 SP1 version of Telerik Data Access is available for download already and it brought a new member into its long list of supported MS SQL Server versions – Microsoft SQL Server 2014, including the lightweight SQL Server 2014 Express / LocalDB. The newly released version of SQL Server offers a lot of performance optimizations plus a hybrid cloud capabilities (more details are available here), and now Telerik Data Access allows you to combine them with its powerful design time and runtime features.

An advantage you can additionally experience with Telerik Data Access is the effortless setup of your existing models to use the new server, which is indistinguishable from your previous experience with MS SQL Server 2012 or MS SQL Server 2008. In case you have upgraded a previous instance of SQL Server, you won't even have to change the connection strings in your application in order to start using the new version. If you have configured a new instance, it would be enough to modify the connection string in the app.config/web.config files, so that the name of the data source matches the name of the server instance.

In case you are just starting a project which is designed to utilize Telerik Data Access and Microsoft SQL Server 2014 / Express, you can create your model just as easily as you are used to, no matter which of our design approaches you intend to implement – Model-First or Database-First. With the new server, you will be able to benefit from all the Data Access features you are already familiar with - full LINQ support, Artificial Types API and many other remarkable capabilities.

We would be happy to hear about your experience during the development process!
