Telerik DevCraft Release for .NET Devs to Go Mobile and X-Plat

On Monday October 27, Telerik released the Q3 2014 edition of the award winning DevCraft suite.  It's more than just a typical milestone release. It includes some new and exciting frameworks , controls and tools that will enable your .NET development on all platforms with Xamarin and Windows Universal.  Or, if you prefer to stick with the web, we have cool new features for our AJAX control suite.

UI for ASP.NET AJAX Updates

Telerik is continuing to bring more of the capabilities of the modern, mobile web to you with this release of UI for ASP.NET AJAX.  We are introducing more mobile features and a series of new modern web visualizations that will make your web development experience easier.

• RadGrid is being enabled for mobile with an alternative rendering model that is optimized for touch and a smaller screen size;

• RadEditor is receiving a modern HTML5 rendering and a inline editing mode;

• Build step-by-step processes easily with the new RadWizard control;

• Show your user’s progress with a new Progress Bar control;

• Present and manipulate data in a simplified form with the new RadForm control;

• A new TreeMap chart allows you to present data in a hierarchical mosaic structure.

Telerik UI for Windows Universal

Just this year, Microsoft launched Windows Phone 8.1 and Universal Windows apps—the new consolidated approach to write once, and have your app run seamlessly on both Windows Phone and Windows 8.1. With Windows 10 already announced, it is a great time to be a Microsoft developer. We at Telerik know that you depend on us to provide the sharpest UI components for your modern Microsoft app development needs, so what better time to launch a brand new suite of Telerik UI controls: UI for Windows Universal?

With the Universal Windows apps paradigm, Microsoft introduced the new Windows RunTime to converge the underlying framework for Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1. Thankfully, the roadmap for the suite of Telerik UI controls follows the same convergence. For DevCraft Q3 2014 release, we're proud to announce the first official Telerik UI for Windows Universal suite. What's included, you ask?  Nine brand new native Universal controls and nine that target Windows 8.1 exclusively (which are more suited for tablet form factors). The best part,is that this DevCraft Q3 2014 release brings the fresh UI for Windows Universal suite as a FREE upgrade to anyone with an active subscription to the Windows 8 control suite. Throughout the next year, we will work to bring all of the UI for Windows Phone (Silverlight runtime) controls under the Universal banner.

Telerik UI for Xamarin

Earlier this year, Xamarin released an important update called Xamarin.Forms, allowing you to use XAML to define views, layouts and bindings in a familiar markup language. This meant that developers could architect their applications with MVVM and data bindings for clean separation of UI and app logic. 

We are pleased to announce Telerik UI for Xamarin, which includes Xamarin and Xamarin.Forms components that enable you to create cross-platform apps that span across iOS, Android and Windows Phone using a shared C# code base.  The three components included with the Q3 2014 release are: 

• RadChart (For Xamarin and Xamarin.Forms): Features a large collection of chart series. You can show trends with Line, Area and Spline Area Charts; compare sets of data with Bar Charts.  Both horizontal and vertical Bar Charts are supported and you can also illustrate proportions with Pie Charts.
• RadCalendar (For Xamarin): Is a calendar component that has been designed for the mobile environment. It offers great performance, powerful customization options and various features.
• RadFeedback (For Xamarin): Is a composite component that implements a simple yet powerful mechanism for gathering feedback from the users of your Android, iOS and Windows Phone application. Feedback has three main functions: sending feedback, reading feedback and editing user settings. 

During the webinar, we’ll dive into a demo that shows how you can use RadChart in Xamarin.Forms and deploy it to all three platforms.  If you are currently using Xamarin and looking for ways to push your app across the finish line, then this is a session you won’t want to miss.

New and Enhanced Enterprise Features 

Some of the important enhancements for enterprise developers include a focus on Document Processing.  This enables developers to embed, load, create, convert and print documents directly within their apps, without requiring Microsoft Office or any other external library installed on the client or on the server. There is also a powerful new RadialMenu for WPF that comes with 15 predefined themes and RadCloudUpload, currently available for WPF.
