Telerik blogs
I am thrilled to announce the immediate availability of Telerik UI for WinForms Q3 2014, packed and stacked with lots of great enhancements including three brand new controls. But before we dive deep, I would like to say that none of it would be possible without your continuous help and feedback. That said, I do not want to make the intro longer than needed, because I have a lot to say about the new features. So let’s see in details what's new in Q3 2014.

RadRadialGauge

RadRadialGauge, as the name implies, is a radial gauge with visually stunning UI that indicates the magnitude of a value. RadRadialGauge comprises of a needle, ticks and arcs, and you can choose from a total of 30+ presents that have these three building blocks tuned differently for a unique look. RadRadialGauge provides very extensive design-time support allowing you to change each small part directly in the Visual Studio design-time without the need for a separate design editor.

RadCheckedDropDownList

Selecting a value from a drop-down list makes the data entry process much easier for the user. But in many scenarios one may have to choose several values instead of just one, and RadCheckedDropDownList is here to meet this scenario. The end-user can choose from a predefined list of values by checking them from the drop-down list, or by typing them, using the auto-complete functionality of the control. In case an already selected item should be removed, the close button of the tokens will help you do that quickly.

RadRichTextEditor (Beta)

RadRichTextEditor (Beta) is a completely revamped rich textbox control that aims to address the RadRichTextBox disadvantages and complement it with some of the most requested features. In Q3 2014 RadRichTextEditor comes as a Beta, and if you are a RadRichTextBox user, I recommend that you try the new control and share your observations at our UI for WinForms Feedback Portal.

Zip Library

Your end users no longer need to rely on a third-party zipping app to send content using your app. We are happy to introduce our own UI for WinForms Zip library, enabling you to compress and decompress content right there in your app improving the overall user experience. The Zip library provides ten different levels of compression, so that you can choose whether you want a performant zip process or a very big compression ratio.

Native RadGridView-to-Excel Export

Until now, RadGridView exported content to Excel in simple xml format. However, this caused warnings upon opening that content in Excel since the xml format is not truly native to Excel. With this release, we introduce a native Excel exporter that exports the RadGridView content in OpenXML format, providing a truly native experience. Of course, similar to the previous exporter, this exporter provides great styling customization options, so you can get the most visually appealing Excel reports.

Better Document Processing Libraries

The RadWordsProcessing library goes from Beta to Official. This library allows for easy importing and exporting of files to and from the most common spreadsheet file formats including:
  • Open XML Word Document (.DOCX)
  • Rich Text Format (.RTF)
  • Text Files (.TXT)
  • HyperText Markup Language (.HTML)
