Now that the Q1 2015 Service Pack is out, we are in mainstream development for Q2 2015. We’ve just updated our roadmap page to let you know what’s already cooking and what you can expect. It’s all based on your feedback so far. In this post, I will highlight a few features.
We’ve always wanted to help you increase productivity and provide as much as possible functionality out-of-the-box as possible, and we already have plenty of ready-to-use report templates. Now, we're adding more, one of which is for product catalogue reports. All templates will be available if you are using Visual Studio integrated designer for creating reports or the Standalone Report Designer.
We were thinking a lot about what approach to take to modernize the look and feel of the current ASP.NET Report Viewer. The paths from which we can choose can result in an enormous amount of breaking changes. This means your apps might stop working properly once you upgrade, and you'll need to go through every instance of the viewer to fix it manually to leverage the new look.
That's why we decided to leave the current ASP.NET WebForms Viewer as is and introduce s new one. The new one will be a wrapper of the HTML5 Viewer. It will leverage the same look, feel and features of the HTML5 Viewer, but you will be able to add it as any other ASP.NET WebForms control on your .aspx page. At the same time, you can use C# to further control it from the back end of your application, just as you do in WebForms. This way, you get the modern UI while providing the best user experience to your end users gradually, once you are ready to do it.
Tell us what you think about each of the items that made it on the Q2 2015 roadmap by leaving a comment below. Or, use the feedback portal, where you can vote for the items and kick off their priority for the next versions.
