Telerik blogs

Hey everyone!

Taking a quick break from the updates to the HR Recruiting application to share some information on the Telerik Eastern Canada User Group Tour that is coming up in September.  What is the TECUGT (wow, that is one pretty acronym), you might be asking?  Well, to put it simply...

Canada Loves .Net Ninjas

So not only do you have the opportunity to pick up your RadControls for Silverlight from any stop in TechDays Canada, but I'm also going to be making two trips to eastern Canada in September to present some fresh new Silverlight talks to a user group (hopefully) near you.  So if you're in the Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa, or Toronto areas between September 7th and 15th, your local .Net user group will have a Silverlight presentation that will both educate and entertain.

Dates and groups are as follows:

Tuesday, September 7th - Quebec City .Net User Group

Wednesday, September 8th - Montreal .Net Community - 6:30-9pm

Thursday, September 9th - Ottawa .Net User Group

Monday, September 13th - East of Toronto .Net User Group - 6:30-9pm

Tuesday, September 14th - North of Toronto .Net User Group (10th Anniversary Meeting!) - 6:30-9pm

Wednesday, September 15th - Metro Toronto .Net User Group - 6-8:30pm

If you're into .Net, Silverlight, or just looking for the chance to win a.Net Ninja Stress Ball for asking a good question, drop by for one of these talks and take in the geeky goodness that only a .Net User Group meeting can offer.

The three sessions offered to each group (follow the links to see which your group chose) are as follows:

Silverlight Development Best Practices
In this session, we will explore best practices of development with Silverlight.  This will include a look at the current toolset (VS2010/Blend) as well as the different options for architecture and data access (to MVVM or not to MVVM, WCF RIA Services or not, etc.), as well as how you can structure your application for intelligent reuse of styles and resources, making it easier to design a large-scale application with a unified look and feel.

The Designer/Developer Experience with Silverlight
In this code-heavy session, we will build a small sample application from the ground up, utilizing Visual Studio 2010 to handle the code and Expression Blend to manage the design experience.  By utilizing both applications, we’ll get to see how the designer/developer story plays out and what features of both applications are most helpful for your development.

Building a Unified Experience – Developing with Silverlight 4 and Windows Phone 7
In this session, we will get look into development on both the full Silverlight platform and on Windows Phone 7.  We’ll explore the advantages (and limitations) of each platform and the different options we have on each as far as user experience and interaction are concerned.

And regardless of which session gets presented at which user group, all slides and code will be available here after the tour wraps up.

Hoping to see lots of you in September!
