Brand new Silverlight LOB sample application by Telerik

by Nikolay Atanasov | Comments 16

We uploaded a brand new sample application developed by our senior evangelist Evan Hutnick.

“The Telerik Legal Dashboard demo application was built utilizing real requirements from our customers in order to provide a rich and interactive data display.  This application provides both a managerial view, in which you can slice and dice data with RadDataFilter and get instant results in both RadGridView and RadChart, as well as an executive overview with a dropdown to select pre-defined dashboard views to provide quick access to information with a rich display” says Evan.

You can view the demo at:
http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/legaldashboard/

It is also included in the Tools and Demos section of the RadControls for Silverlight Online Demos.

The Source Code is available for download at:

When looking at it in "Manager" mode, the chart does not provide enough info to indicate what each bar is related to. Is it based on the month or based on year or based on lawyer? Although it is more meaningful in the "Executive" view.

Secondly, when you are on the left side looking at the lawyers and selecting next, the designed format "Suggests" that the right side is child/detail relation. However, when you change the lawyer, nothing changes in the chart section but the "Won" grid is updated. This can be confusing at first, since the chart is not a child of the Lawyer table, but positioned on the right side where the child table is and same size as the child grid.
My suggestion is to position the chart in different position than the child grid to avoid this and also give each bar a proper header or footer.
My 2 cents! :-)

If I download the "source code" I get a zip file with a bunch of dlls in the root and a binaries folder with more dlls. No source code at all.
Ben Hayat
Ian's observation is correct. No source, just DLLs!

Hello,

I am looking forward to the source code for the Legal dashboard, any idea when this would be posted?
Nikolay Atanasov
The source files have been re-uploaded. Now you can download the entire solution.

Ben- Fear not, as our unofficial product and demo advice guru your feedback is being taken into consideration for the next iteration of this sample application.  This demo was actually designed with a little bit of forward thought in mind, as some things that we have planned for Q3 and beyond will also be making their way into this one. ;)

Otherwise keep the feedback coming, we want sample applications like this one to help people learn about the integration options and overall usage of our controls in more complex scenarios than normal demos allow for, so we'll take into consideration any good feedback we get from the Telerik developer community.

P.S.- One of the ideas behind using RadDocking for the Manager view was the ability to pin/unpin the RadDataFilter (since we don't always need to see the filter to have it in effect) as well as the option to move panes around for a better viewing experience, but we'll definitely do something to make it more obvious what pertains to what in vNext.

Can you clarify what the SMALLCONFROOM web.config entry for "LegalDatabaseEntities" is about (there are two entries to SMALLCONFROOM, one commented out, one still active)?

With SQL Server 2008 I get the famours error message about the application needing version 655 of the database but that this is version 612 - caused by my having SQL Server 2008 rather than SQL Server 2005 Express edition, I fixed up the web.config file to remove the reference to the SQLEXPRESS instance but notice there is also an entry for a database instance at SMALLCONFROOM\SQLEXPRESS and at the moment the code is throwing an exception 'The entry LegalSomething has already been added' if I remove the reference to SQLEXPRESS.

Thanks,
Ian

Thanks Evan; I also thought about the use case of "RadDocking" and how it applies in situation where there is a Master/Detail relation where as situations where as there is no dependency involved. But knowing I'm dealing with a perfectionist team, I just couldn't resit to tweak it a bit; :-)

Thanks for the kind words!

I added a RadDataFilter above the Cases grid (so I can filter the Cases). I used the same methodology as the Lawyers RadDataFilter/RadGrid.

The new RadDataFilter is binding but it will not filter the grid when I add anything to it. Any suggestions on how to make this work?

I get the following message when I try to download the source code "We are sorry, but you are not license developer for this product."
Any Ideas what I am missing?
Emil
I got the same - "We are sorry, but you are not license developer for this product.". Can you update the link again, please?
Emil
Under that link you just provided, I still get an error:

We are sorry, but you are not license developer for this

product.

And I have the same issue.
It's a pity because that demo illustrate a few of the interactions that are required from my application - I do not know whether they were difficult or not to implement, hence I am not going to be able to decide.
Is there anyway the source code may be made available?
Thanks
Nikolay
Hi guys,

Can you submit tickets so that I can attach the latest version of the application that we have on our side?
