Run Your Telerik Reports in the Cloud and Export Them to Word, PowerPoint & Excel 2007+

As with every release, the Q1 2011 focus for Telerik Reporting has been on both -- the end-user and the developer.

Analyze, Update, Present & Share Data

Supporting the Office Open XML standard, developed by Microsoft for representing spreadsheets, presentations and word processing documents, was a natural evolution for Telerik Reporting. This notable end-user feature means that starting from Q1 2011 Telerik Reporting will be able to export its reports to 2007/2010 Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Word, and Excel documents.

Native support for the Office Open XML standard means a couple of important things:

• Firstly, we are not simply exporting an image of the report, but all report elements such as tables, textboxes, charts, etc. together with the full report data and aggregates. This way end-users will be able to update/edit the exported report as they see fit, analyze the data, share it and even present it!
• The second important outcome from this is that the Office Open XML standard allows to “easily move data between disparate applications, and allowing users to glean business insight from that data.” (Source: MSDN). This means that all document suites that support the Office Open XML standard, paid and open source, will be able to open the exported documents and allow for editing.

The older BIFF XLS export format (readable by Microsoft Excel 97+) will still be supported.

Interactive Reports +

Your end-users will appreciate the fact that changing a parameter in any Telerik report viewer will not require a page/form refresh any more – we have improved the parameters to do this automatically. This enhances the report usability and provides a pleasant experience when working with the report parameters.

Reports in the Cloud

Cloud computing is getting much of the hype these days, and it should not be a surprise that Telerik Reporting can be run with SQL Azure and on Windows Azure. As you know, Azure is an excellent platform for SMEs, because they can utilize the on-demand computing and storage to host, scale, and manage .NET web applications on the internet through Microsoft datacenters. Programming Telerik Reporting to operate in the Microsoft cloud is a no-brainer: you can connect Telerik Reporting to SQL Azure in a few simple steps by using Telerik OpenAccess ORM, Entity Framework, or plain ADO.NET, and then publish the reports to Windows Azure. Sub-Totals in the Page Footer (and in the Header)

The powerful expression engine of Telerik Reporting has been extended with page aggregates, which allow you to add customizable sub-totals and summary data at the bottom of every page, such as total number of Unit X that has been sold, or the average number of processes that have passed. You can add counts, sums, and averages to each page, even if your report consists of several subreports and tables.
