Wednesday, March 18, 2009 by Valentin Stoychev | Comments 6

It is official - the next version of Silverlight has been previewed today at, the sponsored from Telerik conference, MIX09 and is available for download now.

Silverlight just got better - major updates to the runtimes are:

  • offline support
  • validation framework
  • page navigation framework ( much like our own Telerik RadPageNavigation framework)
  • .NET RIA services framework
  • GPU hardware
  • 3D, GPU acceleration, Animations
  • SaveFileDialog
  • Assembly caching
  • Tools - Blend3 + VisualStudio Tools for Silverlight3

So far the best overview is provided by Tim Heuer - check his blog post about more details on what's new:

If you are not lucky to be part of MIX09 you can watch the keynotes and the sessions live here:

We are working actively with the latest Silverlight3 bits, and we will do our best to make the, still hot Q1 bits, Silverlight3 compatible withing the next few days, so you can start exploring the new Silverlight3 features ASAP.

Stay tuned!

Maybe me as only had chance for a quick review of features - but I didn't notice support for Printing?

Sorry Peter, No printing improvements in SL3 :(.

A new great feature in Blend 3, is that 3rd party tools can register their library in Blend 3 and the controls will show straight away in the asset tools.

I like the new SL3 features, but I think the new Blend 3 will surface those features much easier. Hopefully, Blend 3 will be more friendly to 3rd party products!
